Committing Yourself to God

Waiting on the Lord (Part 2)

We are living in times of turmoil making it easy to take our focus off the Lord, and be filled with anxiety and fear. God has not changed. His promises are still true. He promises protection to those who wait on Him. God uses 7 different Hebrew words that are translated “wait on the Lord.

Waiting on the Lord is focus that seeks God; confidence that trusts God; and diligence that serves God.

We are focusing on the Hebrew word—08104. shamar – to hedge about, to guard, protect—obedient commitment. This moves our focus to yielding to Christ’s Lordship. This surrender begins with salvation—Believing on Christ for salvation from sin. Then it moves to committing to Christ as the Lord of our life.

By ourself we are vulnerable, but as believers in Jesus Christ we are strong in Him and able to stand in His whole armor. When we know Jesus as our Savior from sin He is our truth, our righteousness, our peace, our faith, our salvation, the living word, our intercessor.

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He is our defense—Psalm 59:9 – “Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.”

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He never sleeps—Psalm 121:3, 4, 5, 7, 8 – “3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. …7The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He is our guard—Psalm 127:1 – “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

Will you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and yield yourself to Him as your Lord?
