Committing Yourself to God

Waiting on the Lord (Part 2)

We are living in times of turmoil making it easy to take our focus off the Lord, and be filled with anxiety and fear. God has not changed. His promises are still true. He promises protection to those who wait on Him. God uses 7 different Hebrew words that are translated “wait on the Lord.

Waiting on the Lord is focus that seeks God; confidence that trusts God; and diligence that serves God.

We are focusing on the Hebrew word—08104. shamar – to hedge about, to guard, protect—obedient commitment. This moves our focus to yielding to Christ’s Lordship. This surrender begins with salvation—Believing on Christ for salvation from sin. Then it moves to committing to Christ as the Lord of our life.

By ourself we are vulnerable, but as believers in Jesus Christ we are strong in Him and able to stand in His whole armor. When we know Jesus as our Savior from sin He is our truth, our righteousness, our peace, our faith, our salvation, the living word, our intercessor.

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He is our defense—Psalm 59:9 – “Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.”

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He never sleeps—Psalm 121:3, 4, 5, 7, 8 – “3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. …7The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

We can wait on the Lord with obedient commitment because He is our guard—Psalm 127:1 – “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

Will you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and yield yourself to Him as your Lord?

Binding Yourself to God

Waiting on the Lord (Part 1)

We are living in times of turmoil and aggravation making it easy to take our focus off the Lord, and be filled with anxiety and fear. God has not changed. His promises are still true. He promises strength to those who wait on Him. God uses 7 different Hebrew words that are translated “wait on the Lord.

We are focusing on the Hebrew word—06960. qavah – to bind together—wise bonding. This moves our focus to our relationship with God. Our own strength is very weak like the vine of a Morning Glory. When the Morning Glory attaches or binds its self to a tree it becomes as strong as the tree. God wants us to live in His strength.

First know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior from sin.

Then know God as your Father by walking with Him. This walk includes meditating on His word, prayer, fellowshipping in Church, and winning souls for His glory.

This word is used in Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” God strengthens us to soar above the turbulent winds of our trials; to run our race with patience; and to manifest each moment the fruit of His Spirit.

We should wait on the Lord because:

1. His Messiah has come – 40:1–5.

2. He gave His word – 40:6–8.

3. He cares for His people – 40:9–11.

4. He is above His creation – 40:12–17.

5. He is above all other gods – 40:18–26.

6. He is just – 40:27.

7. He is faithful – 40:28 – “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.”

8. He is omnipotent – 40:29 – “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”

9. Man at his best is weak – 40:30 – “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:”

10. He keeps His promises – 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
